Wyndham Council have decided to approve an additional 70 pokies in the Point Cook hotel taking the number of pokies in Wyndham, Western Australia to 663. The decision is quite a turnaround from the refusal they issued last year in which they cited the detrimental effects of gambling on the population.

However the U-turn is a result of sticking to state issued recommendations that the number of pokie machines should be capped at 10 machines per adult in a selected area. This guideline would mean that Wyndham would be allowed 952 pokies in the area, so the 663 they have at the moment are comfortably within the correct number to be socially responsible.
