It's looking likely that Tazmania may be the test bed of a new scheme that will enforce Australian Poker Machine players to set their limits before beginning to play. Victoria did not want to test the scheme that would force players to use 'pre-commitment technology' which has meant that it may take federal movement to force the move through.

Victoria preferred to take the tactic of letting players set their own limits on a volentary basis. However it seems that Tasmanian Premier, Lara Giddings is willing to give the new technology a platform in Tasmania – a place from which the federal government can review results and make future decisions around.

Under the new system all players would be issued with a special pokies card which they would set a limit on how much money they would be allowed to spend on pokies.
