Last year, SkyCity proposed an expansion of its Adelaide property that would attract more high rollers to the venue. Now, the casino operator is one step closer to bringing that vision to life after securing almost a thousand new parking spots to accommodate the influx of new tourists. According to a report by In Daily, SkyCity has agreed upon a deal with Walker Corporation that will provide the casino operator with 750 parking spaces.

Of the 1560 spaces in the Festival Centre underground carpark, the casino operator has leased 750 of them. The lease of the carpark is essential to the expansion of SkyCity Adelaide, and an integral part of the $610 million redevelopment of the Festival Plaza precinct. The lease extends until 2035, and will cost SkyCity $4.7 million.

As part of the deal, Walker Corporation must begin developing the five-level carpark by July 2016, and finish it by 2018. The redevelopment project will include two-storey building for restaurants, cafes and bars as well as an office building. The development will also remove Otto Hajek’s concrete garden sculpture, potentially replacing public artwork, water features and plants.

It will create 3500 jobs during construction, which will lead to 400 ongoing jobs. “With the announcement of this development and the key terms of the car park lease now confirmed, Skycity can now progress its plans to transform the Adelaide Casino into a world-class integrated entertainment complex,” says Nigel Morrison of SkyCity.

“This is a major step forward in creating Adelaide’s premier entertainment, hospitality and cultural precinct”. The SkyCity Adelaide expansion will attract VIP gamblers from around the world. The casino operator has started work on the development of a six-star boutique hotel, VIP gaming area, signature restaurants and a rooftop pool. The expansion is expected to be completed by 2016.
