For the last year, casino operators Echo Entertainment and Crown Casinos have been duking it out over the last available gambling venue license in Brisbane. Both companies proposed world-class casino resorts that would boost tourism in Queensland. While both proposals were very compelled, Echo Entertainment won the license. Echo Entertainment’s new Brisbane Casino will be a $2 million development.

The company will move its existing Treasury Casino out of its current home, and into a new luxurious setting with five hotels, 2500 apartments, community spaces and much more. Australia continues to be a major destination for high roller gamblers from around the world. Gambling capitals like Macau and Manila are now competing with Australian casino resorts like The Star and Crown Melbourne.

Echo Entertainment’s new property will put Brisbane on the map as a gambling destination, attracting international tourists with expensive taste. "Our proposal also ensures there will continue to be only one casino in Brisbane," says Echo Entertainment Head Geoff Hogg.

"It will be an asset for this state that will compete with anything in Macau, Singapore or other destinations around the world”. In addition to bringing in tourism from around the world, the new Brisbane casino will boost Queensland economy in other ways. It will create thousands of jobs for local residents – 3000 during construction and a further 8000 permanent positions when the casino resort is open to the public.

The construction of Echo Entertainment’s new gambling venue will begin in 2017. It is estimated that the process will take 5 years, and that Brisbane’s new casino resort will be open to the public by 2022. There is a great deal of support for the new venue from business owners across Brisbane.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) has expressed its confidence that Echo Entertainment’s new venue will be a boon to the local economy. A statement from CCIQ Director of Advocacy Nick Behrens reads: “This attraction will pull substantial international tourism to Brisbane, which will continue to cascade economic benefit for decades to come”.
