As problem gambling continues to be a growing problem across the country, it is important to spread the word about responsible gambling. To help this cause, skateboards, scooter riders and BMX bikers teamed up for the Know Your Odds Series at Burnie Skatepark.

The Know Your Odds Skate, Scoot and BMX Competition took place on Saturday March 5, where dozens of athletes gathered to compete for cash prizes while spreading the word about responsible gambling. Anglicare staff were in attendance as well, to speak with attendees about gambling and how they can approach the activity in a responsible manner.

This is the fourth year for the Know Your Odds Skate, Scoot and BMX Competition series. Over the years, it has proven itself to be an effective way of talking to young people about gambling. It is important for educate people about safe gambling from a young age, and this event provides responsible gambling advocates with the opportunity to do so.

While there are $1000 worth of prizes up for grabs, event organisers encourage sports fans to attend the event as spectators. It is a great opportunity for young people across the state to experience a fun event that showcases street sports in a positive light.

"This series provides a fun and positive recreational opportunity for the region's youth," says Burnie Mayor Anita Dow. Know Your Odds is a responsible gambling campaign that has been launched by Tasmania’s Department of Health and Human Services.

To program aims to maintain the benefits of gambling while communicating harm minimisation measures that will help players gamble more responsible and prevent them from developing harmful spending habits and potential addictions. Know Your Odds runs a number of campaigns, such as television advertising and in-person events that communicate the responsible gambling message.
