Respin Rhino Free Play: Try Respin Rhino Pokie in Demo Mode

Lightning Box games are taking you out into the wild blue yonder with a safari adventure set in Africa. Tigers, chimps, elephants, vultures and rhinos jostle for space on this 40-payline, five-reel slot. The audio is a a simple tune with girls singing in a slightly wistful, slightly spooky way. There’s a dancing African Queen who is clearly listening to a more upbeat tune and lots of fun animation, including somersaulting chimps. Tigers are top of the food chain, needless to say, but the grumpy old rhino turns out to have a golden winning streak. There are quite a few innovative features on this game, including lock and respin, stacks and expanding wilds. Read our full review below.

Pokie Info

Respin Rhino Introduction

This wild symbol substitutes for all other symbols in Respin Rhino by Lighting Box. She only appears on reels 2 and 4, but when she does, she expands to fill the whole reel and dances. That means that every space on that reel is wild.

Bonus play: the Rhino Respin

When all the symbols on reels 1 and 5 are the golden versions and all match, the Rhino Respin is triggered. All eight places on the reels must contain either tigers, vultures, elephants, chimps, Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, Tens or Nines with the gold background, substituting for any other symbols that were on those reels. To begin with, three respins are triggered on reels 2, 3 and 4. Every symbol on reels 1 and 5 becomes a gold rhino.

The wild African Queen resets the respins back to three. She is held for the rest of the respins, with a maximum of up to nine respins to be won. If the respins result in stacks of rhinos on reels 1 and 5, the number of golden rhinos is the key to the prizes. Five rhinos is equal to 105, four equal 60 and three equal 30.

Tigers are tops

Five tigers score 100, four equal 40, and three equal 20. Chimps are nearly the same, except three equal just 15. With the elephant and vulture, five equal 75, four equal 40 and three equal 15. When it comes to the playing cards, Ace and King mean 70, 20 and 10 for five of a kind, four and three respectively. The Queen stands alone with five for 50, four for 20 and three for 10. The Jack, the Ten and the Nine are five for 50, four for 10 and three for 5.

Settings and Autoplay

The settings button is the gold cog at top right of the screen. Here you set the number of autoplay spins, the size of your bet and the sound level. Click the speaker to turn the sound on and off. The green triangle with the arrows sets the autoplay spins. Use the slider to adjust the number from 1 to 100. Then click the Play icon (right arrow) to go back to the game.

The number of autoplay spins you’ve set will be displayed just above the main Play button. To alter the number of autospins, you can use the smaller round button above the autoplay number. If you want to interrupt the autospins, click on the main “Play” button. This will make the Autospins button pop up. Click on it to go to the Autoplay Spins screen and reset the number.

Click the pile of coins at the top of the settings screen to adjust your bet size. The slider moves in small increments, then bigger ones as the amounts get larger. The minimum bet size is 0.01 and the maximum is 5.00. If you don’t have enough balance for the number of spins times the size of the bet you’ve set, you’ll get a warning message. You can also reset your bet using the blue up and down arrows on the left side of the screen.

Great graphics, good audio, simple gameplay

The graphics are good, even though some might find the African Queen a little stereotypical. The animation when symbols are on a payline is great and equally effective on desktop, mobile and tablet. The audio is imaginative and matches the play well. The game play is quite simple despite the expanding wilds, and the theme could perhaps have been developed a little more.

It's always more interesting if there are multiple levels in a game to build engagement - for example, if you have to collect things. However, the respins are great, and if you don’t like too much complexity but want to see some really cute chimps, this is the game for you.
