Bally Technologies and Scientific Games have spent the past few months working on their acquisition deal. This week, the two companies have finally had their deal approved by American gambling regulators. Soon, the poker machine leader that is Bally Technologies will be owned by Scientific Games, one of the biggest lottery providers in the world.
According to Review Journal, Scientific Games has purchased Bally Technologies for an impressive $3.3 billion. This is the second big pokie operator purchase that the company has made, as Scientific Games bought WMS for $1.5 billion in 2013. It was around that time that Bally purchased table games operator SHFL for $1.3 billion – which will now be owned by Scientific Game as well.
This deal will make Scientific Games one of the most diverse gaming operators in the casino world. The company operates in a wide range of regulate gambling sectors, such lotteries, pokies, table games, casino management and online gambling. By joining forces, Scientific Game and Bally Technologies will be able to provide players with a wide range of innovative new poker machines and casino technology.
There is certainly a great deal of potential for these two companies now working together. “These two companies provide a great base to distribute content across a greater platform. That’s what our customers want to see,” says Ronald O. Perelman, one of the owners of Scientific Games.
While this deal will certainly have a substantial effect on the American regulated gambling market, there is no word yet on what the acquisition will have in store for international operators. Bally Technologies provides poker machines to casinos and other gaming venues around the world.
Now that it is owned by an American company, we wonder if Australian gaming markets will still have access to the same extensive collection of Bally poker machines.
