The expansion of Brisbane’s casino gambling market is getting a great deal of attention from both local and international gaming operators. While Echo Entertainment and Crown Casinos continue to battle it out over which company will secure a gaming license, other international firms have proposals in the works.
Professor Jianping Zheng has proposed the construction of the Sea Pearl Hotel, a sphere-shaped entertainment venue that will appear to float on the water. Professor Zheng is a world-renowned architect who has designed over 200 theme parks in China. He is also the brains behind various futuristic properties like the Sheraton Moon Hotel in Huzhou.
Now, he plans to bring his innovative vision to Australia with the Sea Pearl Hotel, which will house a casino and entertainment complex. The hotel will house shopping malls, a sky deck, a swimming pool, restaurants, an exhibition centre and many other facilities. The architect and design team want the Sea Pearl to be a world-class entertainment venue that will attract international tourists and visitors from across Australia.
While the plan is getting a great deal of attention in the local press, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate is not particular on board with the Sea Pearl Casino. He has stated that the idea has been floating around for years and, since a formal proposal has not been submitted, he will not comment on it any further. “I have only heard about and seen the project through the newspaper,” Mayor Tate says.
“I understand the design concept is about six years old and not originally for the Broadwater. There is little else to add as the proponent has not approached council”.
