Six months ago, Zynga Founder Mark Pincus stepped down from his head role at the social gaming company. Now, it seems that he is ready to back involved in the social games market with the establishment of a new app development firm. According to Re/Code, Pincus is starting a new company called Superlabs, which will be funded with his own money.
The company will develop several digital concepts that he has had dreamt up in the months since he left Zynga. He has enlisted in several young developers to bring these ideas to live – however, he has yet to reveal any specific information about the apps. “I really think the opportunity is still out there now that mobile has so disrupted the market and left a lot of areas to be innovated,” he says.
“It’s a great time to be making things.” Pincus has founded a number of different business, including Freeloader Inc and Support.com. In 2007, he founded his most popular company: Zynga. The social games developer became one of the most popular companies in the market. Titles like Farmville and Zynga Poker were hugely popular among online gamers, but the company could not maintain its momentum.
Last year, Zynga fell on hard times. The company made many staff cuts, and removed a number of games from its roster. Pincus eventually stepped down from his role as CEO but still serves on Zynga’s board. His new venture will see his team developing a wide range of apps for various purposes – unlike Zynga which only focused on gaming.
Pincus recognises that there is a lack of apps that are fundamental for everyday life, and he aims to fill this need with Superlabs. This is exciting venture, and we can’t wait to see what Superlabs produces.
