The social gaming world is constantly changing and evolving. Popular trends that are in one year are likely to be out shortly as new fads takeover – and, Facebook seems to be one company that is struggling to stay relevant in the social gaming market. According to a new report in Innovate Gaming, Facebook gaming is on the decline as more players are choosing to access social games from their mobile phones.
A report was compiled by Eilers Research, which found that Facebook gaming revenues have declined by 2% in the past few months. It is the first time in the history of the Facebook Games platform that there has ever been a decline on yearly revenue.
Now, more than ever, players are accessing their favourite social games from their mobile phones and tablet computers. The Facebook Games platform is not currently available on mobile platforms, so players who wish to access their favourite Facebook social games while on the go will have to seek out a version that is made for iOS or Android devices. If that option is not available, they will likely turn to a similar game that is available on mobile.
Eilers Research also made note of the most popular types of social games on Facebook. Of the Top 5 Apps on the platform, two of them are social casino games: Slotomania and DoubleDown Casino. Of the Top 25 Apps, more than half of them are social gambling games.
While profits for Facebook Games may be down, investors are not particularly bothered as they are making up the revenue in other aspects of the site’s operation. Eilers report that Facebook Games revenue represents just 8% of the site’s overall revenue. So, it does not seem like Facebook will be taking the entire Facebook Games platform to mobile just yet.
