The Victorian government has decided to introduce voluntary pre-commitment technology on up to 30 000 games across the state. While players will have the option of using the software, it is mandatory that all games in Victoria offer it as a helpful preventative measure that encourages players to be wise about their gambling spending. Greek lottery provider Intralot will provide the software in a deal that will last for 12 years.
Intralot will equip the games with technology that allows the players to set their time and loss limits on any poker machine in the state. Players will also be able to track their progress across all games that they play and they will be able to access their data at any time on the internet.
“Following the successful implementation of the monitoring licence project in Victoria, we are very pleased to move together with the State to deliver such a world leading initiative in the important field of responsible gaming, since this is a core element of Intralot group strategy around the world,” says John Pantoleo, COO of Intralot. The installation of the software will begin in 2015.
By the end of the year, the initiative will ensure that all pokies will offer voluntary pre-commitment to players.
