Bet365 is one of the newer players in the Australian online gambling market. The company only recently entered the local online betting industry, and has experience some difficulty getting off the ground. Now, Bet365 is in even more trouble, as the operator is now the target of a court action filed by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
The ACCC has reason to believe that Bet365 has been misleading players with various promotions by failing to properly display the fine print. While most online casino and online betting promotions come with a catch, the operators tend to be open and honest about what it required of player before they can claim their bonus cash; however, Bet365 did not do this.
One of the most misleading promotions offered players the chance to earn $200 in free bets. However, players were not informed that they would have to spend $1200 before they would be eligible for the bonus cash. It is this type of deception that gives online gambling a bad name. While most operators are above board and ensure that they provide players with all of the rules and conditions up front, Bet365 has not acted in this manner.
As such, players are not pleased with the way they have been treated, and the ACCC wants justice. “The Consumer Law requires that any conditions, limitations or restrictions should be made clear to the consumer before the purchase rather than after a consumer has been unfairly enticed into a transaction,” says Rod Sims, Chairman of the ACCC.
Since the legal action was filed, Bet365 has changed the advertising on its site to actually reflect the rules and conditions of its promotions. It is hoped that no other players will be misled in the future.
