While modern pop culture brands are getting a great deal of attention from pokie manufacturers, there is still a place in the market for branded poker machines based on classic films and television shows. To appeal to players’ nostalgia, MX Digital is creating a pokie based on a classic comedy film: The Blues Brothers.
If you need a refresher, The Blues Brothers were a pair of characters played by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd who headed a blues band. In their 1980 film, they reunited their old band to raise money for the orphanage that they grew up. The film was a huge hit, featuring performances by RnB greats like Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway and James Brown.
“As a fan, and having been a part of the television audience when The Blues Brothers made television, feature film and music history, we are very proud to be able to bring this brand to fans around the world in our game formats,” says Eric Bischoff of MX Digital. The gaming developer will work directly with Dan Aykroyd and Judy Belush (widow of John Belushi) to create the game.
There is no word yet on whether the title will be based on the film alone or also on The Blues Brothers’ sketches that appeared on Saturday Night Live in the 1970s. MX Digital has a number of other exciting projects on the go for 2014. The company has announced a game based on Missing in Action, which starred Chuck Norris and Joe Frazier.
There is also talk of a new pokie being based on Bloodrayne, a popular video game as well as a title based on James Dean. This is certainly going to be a big year for MX Digital, and we are eager to see these great games come to life.
