TabCorp is one of Australia’s biggest licensed gambling operators, running sportsbooks and other gambling services to players across the country. Now, TabCorp is working on capturing a larger share of the poker machine market by offering servicing and maintenance to pokie club owners. TabCorp Gaming Services was established in 2012, after the Victorian state government terminated the operator’s pokie duopoly with Tatts Group.
Since then, TabCorp has been working with small- to medium-sized pokie clubs in order to help owners run their machines efficiently. TGS now provides servicing to over 8500 games in Victoria, which is just over a third of the state’s entire pokie market. The service targets smaller clubs, since they do not have access to the same gaming management resources that are at the disposal of casinos and larger pokie venues.
TGS installs and manages games, helping operators to make the most of their poker machines. Clubs that work with TGS have a 2% higher turnover on their gaming than clubs that work with other gaming management operators. Now, TabCorp is focused on offering TGS to pokie clubs in New South Wales. Recently, the company signed a deal with Kogarah RSL, a pokie club in Sydney.
The venue operates 65 poker machines, and TabCorp states that it will be able to raise its gaming income. "We are not going at it like a bull in a china shop," says TabCorp CEO David Attenborough said. "We are taking a measured approach to growing the business and we are confident that we can."
If the company’s existing Victorian clients show us anything, it’s that TabCorp certainly has a competitive advantage in the land-based gambling market. The company has operated pokies for decades, and certainly knows how to ensure that gaming clubs capitalize on their poker machines.
