Poker machines are a popular form of gambling all over the world. Across Europe, punters in gaming clubs and casinos enjoy wagering on pokies, which provide simple and engaging entertainment along with the opportunity to win generous cash prizes. This week, Loteria Romania expanded its poker machine collection by signing a deal to purchase 10 000 video lottery terminals from Novomatic.
Novomatic is one of the biggest poker machine manufacturers in Europe. Based in Austria, the company provides pokies and other gaming machines to various countries across the continent, including Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland. It is comparable to Aristocrat or International Game Technology in Australia.
The company’s new deal will see Novomatic expand into Romania, as Loteria Romania spends €75 million on 10 000 Novomatic-powered pokies. The profits from the games will be shared equally between both parties, and they will also split business expenses. The partnership will last for the next 15 years. Novomatic beat out much competition to obtain this deal.
According to InterGame, there were five other gaming firms in the running to partner with Loteria Romania, but Novomatic emerged as the top choice. In addition to providing the games, Novomatic will also operate a progressive jackpot system, conduct product maintenance and provide spare parts for the games.
“This long-term agreement is an endorsement of our competence in this sector and highlights once again our leading role in the international VLT market,” says Ryszard Presch, Novomatic’s Chief Operating Officer. “I look forward to working together with Loteria Romana”. The first games will be rolled out in December 2013.
Novomatic will ensure that its most popular pokie titles are installed in gaming venues across Romania, helping to boost gambling profits in the country.
