In the small hamlet of Castlemaine, residents are opposing the construction of a new pokies venue. This is an interesting twist on the pokies debate, as Clubs Australia’s movement to ban pokie reform is gaining a great deal of support across the country. Normally, we would expect residents of a small town to support the construction of a new gaming venue, but that simply is not the case in Castlemaine. It seems that Maryborough Highland Society, the group which has proposed the new venue, will have to look somewhere else to build a pokies club.
