Across Australia, casino operators continue to compete for the attention of wealthy international tourists. Companies like Crown Resorts are working hard to create high-end venues that will attract high rollers from around the world, and the owners of Juptiers are now jumping on board with the trend. This week, Jupiters Gold Coast announced its plans to build a 200-metre hotel tower for casino visitors.
It will be completed alongside the $345 million refurbishment of the existing hotel, and it will house 700 hotel rooms and apartments. This will bring the total number of rooms at Jupiters Gold Coast to 1400. While it sounds like a big project, the new tower and the refurbished casino property will not require any additional land.
According to the Brisbane Times, the development will only span that island that Jupiters Gold Coast currently occupies. "Over the last 12 months, we have attracted more than 40,000 additional seats on international flights directly into the Gold Coast. More flights mean more nights' accommodation in hotels, more economic activity for small businesses and more jobs on the Gold Coast," says Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of Queensland.
The construction of the new hotel tower is expected to bring the total cost of the renovations to over $850 million. This will include the addition of a sports theatre, which aims to attract both local and visiting sports fans. More restaurants and bars will also be built, drawing in more local visitors. In addition to bringing in more tourism to benefit the economy, the new renovations will also create new jobs.
1000 construction workers will be employed during the refurbishment process, while the completed property will offer permanent jobs to 2300 people. There is no word yet on when the entire project will be completed. It is expected that some elements will be finished in time for the Commonwealth Games in 2018 – but, it remains to be seen if the new hotel tower will be as well.
