TabCorp is one of the most successful gambling operators in Australia, providing a wide range of gambling services for players across the country. Now, the company will be expanding internationally by launching a business in the United Kingdom. TabCorp will be working with News UK to create a new online gambling service that is available to residents of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The service will be called Sun Bets, and it will be developed in conjunction with The Sun, a British newspaper. The partnership will last for 10 years. During this time, the two companies will take part in a revenue share agreement. While TabCorp operates that gambling side of the business, The Sun will run the media promotion end of things.
“The Sun has more than 10 million readers per week and over one million football fans actively engaged through The Sun Dream Team FC fantasy football competition,” says David Attenborough, Tabcorp managing director and chief executive. “This partnership fits with our strategy of pursuing close-to-core international opportunities.”
TabCorp is one of the leading bookmakers in Australia, but has noticed a decline in business as more international operators create more competitions among local companies. As such, this move to launch a new business in the lucrative UK gambling market is very wise. TabCorp will be able to attract an entirely new audience while working with one of the UK’s largest media providers.
The deal has yet to be finalised, as TabCorp must still obtain the necessary licenses and approval from UK gaming regulators. Once these are secured, TabCorp will carry on with its plans to expand internationally in the United Kingdom. It could also open doors into other European markets where gambling is regulated, such as Spain or Italy.
