Australia is becoming a major gambling destination in the worldwide casino market. Currently, Echo Entertainment and Crown Resorts are the two most prevalent casino operators in the country, but other companies are trying to find a way in. According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, Wynn Resorts is in talks with Troy Grant, the Deputy Premier and Gaming Minister of New South Wales.
They are discussing potential investment opportunities, which could see Wynn opening up a new gambling venue in the state. Wynn is internationally-renowned for its casino resorts. The company owns plenty of properties in gambling destinations around the world, such as Las Vegas and Macau. Now, it seems that Wynn has set its sights on Australia’s burgeoning gambling market.
While it has been revealed that a meeting took place between Wynn executives and NSW politicians, all parties are being quite tight-lipped about the issue. Wynn has not commented on the meeting, while a spokesperson for Premier Mike Baird says: "The government has absolutely no plans for another casino in NSW." Currently, there is just one casino in the state. Echo Entertainment operates
The Star Casino, a luxury gambling destination that offers players a world-class gaming experience. By 2019, there will be two casinos, as Crown Resorts will be opening up a high-roller gambling destination. The two venues will cater to two very different types of clientele, but they will still cover the cross-section of gamblers. As such, it does not seem as though there is room for another casino in the state.
Should Wynn decide to launch a new gambling venue in New South Wales, it may be met with resistance from local politicians and responsible gambling advocates. This is a very interesting development for the gambling market in New South Wales. We will keep you posted as we learn more.
