As Crown Resorts prepares for the construction of its high roller casino in Barangaroo, other businesses in Sydney are making plans of their own for the new tourist attraction. This week, it was revealed that several business owners across the city have proposed the construction of a high-speed cable car that will run from White Bay to Barangaroo.

Several businesses have backed the plan, including Carnival Australia, Echo Entertainment and the Sydney Business Chamber & Committee. They are working together to call on Baird government to give serious consideration to the benefits of bringing a cable car to the city. The proposed project is called Harbour Skylink. It will be a 3.4km cable system starting at Rozelle Bay.

There will be stations along the route White Bay Power Station, White Bay Cruise Terminal, Pyrmont and Barangaroo. Travelling from the cruise terminal to Barangaroo will take less than 5 minutes, significantly less time than the current 30 minute journey. Currently, three new commercial buildings are being constructed in Barangaroo South, and 24 000 be will employed at these properties.

As such, there will be the need for more transportation into the area, and the Harbour Skylink would serve as a great solution. It will only take 18 months to build, and it will be a great option for commuters as well as tourists. The new cable card will use high-tech cabins to transport all types of travels. They will be able to accommodate commuters on bicycles as well as international visitors carrying luggage.

As a technologically-advanced system, it will be quite expensive; however, the project will be private funded. “We agree that transport options including potentially innovative ones need to be considered,’’ says a spokesperson for Echo Entertainment. “Any initiative that could contribute to improving connectivity to and around such an important precinct is worth looking at.”
