Payment technology at casinos is becoming more and more advances, as operators look for new and innovative ways to make players’ lives easier. Now, Apple Pay will be coming to Las Vegas casinos – starting with The Cosmopolitan in June 2015. Apple Pay is a new contactless payment method that allows users to make payments using only their phones.
Whenever you need to make a payment at a shop or restaurant, you simply touch your phone to the contactless reader. The payment is then taken directly from your bank account. There is no need to carry your wallet or your bankcard around with you. Apple Pay is also available for the Apple Watch, making it even more convenient for users who would rather not bring their smart phone everywhere with them.
At The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, patrons will be able to use Apple Pay for a number of services. The payment method will be accepted at the front desk, restaurants and bars on the property. Concierge services will also accept the payment method.
“As always, we are thrilled to lead the market with a new component to a Las Vegas experience that makes everything a bit faster and a great deal easier,” reads a statement from The Cosmopolitan. At the moment, it is unlikely that players will be able to gamble directly with Apple Pay. At many casinos in Las Vegas, players must purchase chips using cash transactions.
So, it may be quite some time before gambling with contactless payment services is possible. This is also a safeguard, as Apple Pay makes it almost too easy to spend money. So, the inability to use it at table games and slot machines will prevent players from exceeding their spending limits. It’s unclear if you will be able to gamble directly with Apple Pay — most casinos limit chips purchasing to cash only transactions.
Or if credit cards are accepted, the payments are marked as cash advances so there are no ways to turn quick money. It is not known if the establishment can or will support this kind of transaction through Apple Pay.
