When James Packer first revealed his plans for his $2 billion hotel-casino, it was originally thought that the penthouse would be a private residence. Now, planning documents show that Crown intends for it to be luxury temporary accommodation for high-roller visitors.
The Australian Financial Review notes that the "Sky Villa" and "Super Villa" suites at Crown Sydney will occupy the top four levels of the building, which will measure 275 metres tall. While the four-storey penthouse will not be allocated as private residences, some areas of the tower will be. 66 apartments from floor 34 to floor 63 can be purchased as homes for local residents.
Lend Lease will own a portion of these properties. Floors 6 through 22 will be a 323-room hotel while Floors 29 through 33 will consist of luxury villas for rent. Between them will be the high-roller casino. This is anticipated to be the real draw for tourists from around the world. At this casino, players must prove that they have VIP status in order to play the high-limit casino games.
It will be one of the most exclusive gambling venues in the world, and it will certainly attract VIP gamblers from exotic locations. With all of the new accommodation, there is also a need for more parking. As such, Crown has proposed that 500 parking spaces will be allocated for hotel use, and is negotiating an agreement with car park operators that are close to the casino.
The tower will also be home to many other facilities and amenities. Offices, gyms, spas, shopping centres and restaurants will be located on the lower levels of the tower. This will make it accessible to all types of visitors – not just high-roller gamblers and wealthy tourists.
