Earlier this month, we reported that Zynga Plus Casino is making plans to close. Now, the real-money casino operator has taken steps to make this so, as players have been notified that they will no longer be able to deposit money. Last week, players registered with the site received emails that said ‘ZyngaPlusPoker and ZyngaPlusCasino will be closing shortly’.
This week, another email went out confirming the closure, stating: “ZyngaPlusCasino has been closed you will not be able to access any real money games”. When players login to the casino, they receive the following message: “Over the next few weeks we will be disabling Game play and Deposits. You will still be able to withdraw your money via cashier”.
Aside from these messages, Zynga has not issued any other statements about the closure of its real-money online casino offering. It is likely that the applications were not financially viable, failing to bring in enough revenue to keep them afloat. This is not the first time that Zynga has shut down a game. Over the course of the past few years, Zynga has seen significant declines in revenue.
The company shut down several popular titles like PetVille, Vampire Wars, Treasure Isle and Montopia. Only Zynga’s biggest apps remain, such as FarmVille, Words With Friends and Zynga Poker. Hundreds of layoffs have also occurred, as the company struggles to compete with an oversaturated social gaming market. However, Zynga seems to be performing well in the mobile gaming world.
Last year, Zynga debuted its popular titles on mobile platforms, which helped to improve revenue. While the move has not completely turned things around, it is a great start for Zynga’s potential recovery.
