Casino operators have recognised that individuals in their 20s do not seem to be interested in playing traditional casino games, and want to give this demographic a new type of gaming experience.
So, we will soon see Atlantic City Casinos with various types of skill games on their gaming floors. "It's definitely a dynamic change in how slots and the gaming industry can evolve," says Joe Lupo, Senior Vice President of Operators at the Borgata. "There's obviously a big demographic playing games of skill, whether it's an Xbox or a Wii. This is yet another way to get people to the casino."
The Borgata Hotel Casino in Atlantic City has recently installed basketball nets, and the venue has seen some success with its new venture. The operator is planning to host of a free-throw competition (with a prize of $10 000) next month and about 400 people have already signed up to take part. Entries are $20, so the decision to offer skill games is proving itself to potentially lucrative.
Accompanying the basketball nets is a wide range of digital skill games. Borgata is working with various developers to create games that will engage players who are interested in skill-based gaming experiences.
