Gambling is one of the most lucrative industries, with operators raking in billions of dollars every year. So, it is always great to see casino operators doing something positive with their revenue. This week, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker have launched an emergency appeal that will provide support to victims of Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu. Cyclone Pam is the worst natural disaster to occur in Vanuatu, with winds upwards of 250km/h.
Across the country, homes have been destroyed, power lines have fallen and roads are blocked. Most people are living in evacuation centres, but these facilities are even beginning to suffer. They are in need of sanitation supplies to prevent the outbreak of diseases. Even hospitals have been damaged and left without electricity, putting medical support at risk.
CARE is an emergency support organisation that has been working in Vanuatu since 2008, and is currently working to help residents through this devastating disaster. The organisation’s office in the country has been destroy, but CARE continues to offer support. PokerStars and Full Tilt are reaching out to players, encouraging them to donate to CARE. Players can donate 1200 FPP and give $20 to the organisation.
This will help to provide CARE with the funding necessary to continue supporting victims of Cyclone Pam. There are also several other donation options which will help to buy water purification kits, family hygiene kits and food packages. “We are so very proud of the poker community’s ability to come together to help those most in need and hope that you’ll join us to do what we can from our side,” said PokerStars in a statement.
