On Valentine’s Day, SkyCity Adelaide opened its new Platinum Room, a high-roller gambling area. A recent feature by Tim Williams has provided the general public with a peek inside the new venue, showcasing its stunning 1920s architecture. According to Williams, the new Platinum Room was inspired by the glamour of the roaring 20s.

The room is outfitted with furniture reminiscent of the era, and it cost $7 million to create the art deco atmosphere. There are 11 customized chandeliers with over 1000 Swarovski crystals, giving the room the lush feel that will attract high roller players. Aaron Morrison of SkyCity calls the room ‘Gatsby-like’. He states that the new design is aimed at making Adelaide more attractive to VIP players from international locations.

To help draw in more traffic, the casino has hired dozens more sale staff to bring in players from Asia who have a great deal of money to spend.

“We have assembled a truly world class team of architects, interior designers and builders to deliver an entertainment environment that is second to none in South Australia and equal to any other interstate or overseas,” says Mr Morrison. In addition to featuring a stunning new design, the Platinum Room is also a high-quality gaming area.

There are 150 pokies and a Baccarat Pavilion, which will appeal to players who are more interested in the gambling aspect of the experience. The room is accessible by invite online, and players must have gambled at least $12 000 in the previous year. Players must also submit to problem gambling screenings to ensure that they will play responsibly.

This year, SkyCity Adelaide will spend $45 million on upgrades, including the $7 million spent on the Platinum Room. In coming years, a further $300 million will be spending on expanding the hotel and the rest of the casino’s gaming floor.
