Last month, Aristocrat was in talks to acquire VGT, a video gaming firm from America. Now, the two companies has agreed that the acquisition will take place with Aristocrat paying $1.3 billion for the company. When the deal was first reported, possible acquisition was valued at $1 billion, as VGT is a well-recognised name in the American gambling market.
Last year, VGT reported revenue worth $236 million, so $1.3 billion seems to be an appropriate price tag for the company. VGT has been up for sale for several years. It is not known why the company has not been snatched up until now, but Aristocrat seems to be the perfect buyer.
Since VGT is a games supplier to Native American casinos across the country, Aristocrat’s expertise in the international poker machine market will certainly benefit VGT’s clients. The acquisition of VGT will boost Aristocrat’s market share in the Native American gambling market in the United States by 5%.
Once the deal is complete, Aristocrat will have a 31% share of the market. This will greatly boost the company’s profits and international profile in the gambling world. “This is a compelling acquisition that will deliver significant value across key strategic segments, particularly our leading US casino systems business and in the fast-growing linked progressive and jackpot markets,” says Aristocrat CEO Jamie Odell.
Aristocrat is an Australian-based poker machine manufacturer that has been making great strides in expanding into the international video gaming industry. The company has a vast presence in markets across Asia and Asia, and is always looking to expand. The acquisition of VGT will be a huge boost to Aristocrat’s presence in North America and benefit the company’s worldwide operations.
