The Queensland government is currently in the process of granting several casino licenses to gaming operators across the state. Many of the new gaming venues will be located in the capital of Brisbane, and tourism industry experts believe that the city will become ‘BrisVegas’ – a major tourist destination for Australia. Two main casino operators are fighting it out to obtain the final gaming license for the city, and they are making big plans.
A major selling point for both operators is the use of 3D light technology to create impressive displays. They will be lit up every day of the year and they will also commemorate major events. According to Echo Entertainment’s Destination Brisbane Consortium, the light displays will be a permanent fixture – like a combination of the ‘City of Lights’ show and the G20 Colour Me Brisbane.
Crown Resorts plans on using existing structures and buildings in its light displays. Queen’s Wharf will be a centrepiece, as well as the waterfall bridge that Crown will be building along with its casino resort. The casino operator will also use the Commissariat building in its displays.
“These hourly immersive light shows will celebrate cultural and sporting milestones such as Chinese New Year, Riverfire, Christmas, Australia Day, the Olympics, State of Origin and other significant events,” says Mark Damant from designer firm Woods Bagot. The design firms working on the light displays state that they will be a major draw for tourists.
A great deal of technology and innovation will be going into the nightly displays, and it will give both visitors and residents a reason to continue to coming back to BrisVegas. This is quite an exciting new addition Brisbane.
We look forward to checking out the new light displays when BrisVegas is open to the public.
