One family from Canberra has cashed in on a generous $30 million jackpot from the Oz Lotto. While the family has chosen to stay anonymous, their story has been chronicled by ABC News. All we know about this particular winner is that she is a single mother. She purchased the ticket from the newsXpress in Woden and was unaware that she won the prize until a week later.
After the November 16 drawing, the winner had yet to come forward. So, the Oz Lotto launched a campaign to seek out the rightful owner of the winner ticket. "I was finishing off my Christmas shopping today and saw a sign at the outlet urging customers to check their entries because they'd sold the $30 million winning Oz Lotto ticket," the winner says.
"I thought I'd better check my entry but I never considered that I actually had the winning ticket. The owners of the store that sold the winning ticket were concerned that the winning ticket as lost forever. Co-owners Christian Bleich, and Rochelle Austin were relieved when the winner finally came forward to present her winning ticket.
"She came in, put the ticket through and she had won," Bleich says. "She's a regular here and a very nice person, she's very deserving." The winner said that she will put her winnings to good use. According to the news report, she will use her jackpot to pay off the family’s mortgage and plans to fly first-class on her next family vacation. She will also donate some of her winnings to charity.
It is certainly a fantastic prize for this time of year, and the winner can look forward to beginning 2015 with a huge windfall and can spend the year living out her dreams.
