SkyCity Adelaide is in the process of refurbishing the property in order to attract more high rollers. As part of this new push for VIP clientele, the casino will be opening up a new restaurant with the collaboration of a celebrity chef. Sean Connolly will be opening up his new restaurant, Sean’s Kitchen, at SkyCity Adelaide on 10 October, 2014.
This is the latest of several casino projects that he has undertaken with SkyCity. He was the head of Grill by Sean Connolly in Auckland and ran Astral Restaurant at Sydney Casino. Aside from his many projects with SkyCity, he has earned a number of honours from the restaurant industry, including the Sydney Morning Herald’s Chef of the Year in 2008.
Sean’s Kitchen will be a more upmarket restaurant but it will feature ‘quirky’ design features. According to Rip It Up, the restaurant will be home to a ham museum. It will feature a collection of hams from around the world, and it will certainly garner some niche tourism. From a cuisine perspective, Sean’s Kitchen will focus on local produce, including Saskia Beer, Berkshire pork, Kangaroo Island Gold and Island Pure dairy.
“South Australia punches well above its weight in term of fresh produce,” says Connolly says. “So it made sense to open a restaurant here in partnership with Adelaide Casino. I use as much of it as I can, even in my restaurants in the east.” The new restaurant will be able to accommodate 180 people. It will include Al Fresco dining, private dining and a chef’s table.
The construction of the restaurant will be filmed for a documentary on Kitchen TV. It will be the first world-class dining option available at Adelaide Casino. As such, Sean's Kitchen will certainly appeal to high rollers visiting from Asia as well as local VIP gamblers.
