It was only a matter of time before mobile gambling apps overtook online casinos. The market is developing rapidly, and players are becoming more inclined to wager on casino games and play poker using their mobile phones than while sitting at their laptops. A recent report by the International Business Times proves that this is the case, as it states that fewer internet users are searching for online gambling keywords on Google.

According to the report, online searches for ‘online gambling’-related keywords are on the decline. Digital Marketing Agency Greenlight carried out the research over a 12-month period, and found that significantly fewer individuals are searching for terms like ‘casino’, ‘sportsbetting’ and ‘bingo’. In June 2012, online gambling search queries totalled 1.5 million.

During the same time this year, they had fallen by over 30% to just under 1 million. The term ‘casino’ was the most searched for out of the group, making up 35% of all gambling-related searches. ‘Sports betting’ was 31% while ‘bingo’ and ‘poker’ were 18% and 16% respectively. At the same time, mobile gambling operators are seeing huge increases in downloads.

For example, William Hill has just reached the ‘1 millionth download’ milestone, and the app was only launched a year and a half ago. Other mobile operators like Paddy Power, 888 and Bet365 are also seeing significant rises in their download numbers. Online gambling was a ground breaking technological achievement, as it made playing casino games and playing poker infinitely more convenient.

Now, mobile gambling takes things several steps further. Players no longer have to sit at a computer or laptop to play their favourite casino games. They can place sports wagers, spin slots or play poker from virtually anywhere using their mobile phones and tablet computers. There is certainly a shift occurring with regards to online gambling behaviour. Mobile gaming is slowly taking over a significant portion of the market share.
