This week, billionaire Tony Fung and his associates have been given the go-ahead to purchase the land necessary to build the $4.2 billion resort in Queensland. Now, Fung is even closer to realizing his dream of building a mega resort property in Australia. Earlier this year, the project was put on hold when the construction date was pushed from 2014 to July 2015.
There was some doubt that the project would not go ahead, but the purchase of land by Aquis is a sign that things are going to plan. He has purchased 340 hectares of land in North Queensland on which to build the new casino resort. The project will require a great deal of land, as the resort will be host to nine hotels, a golf course, a stadium and a conference centre.
Fung’s Casino will put North Queensland on the map as a major tourist destination in Australia. Currently, Brisbane is the go-to spot for tourists – but the new Aquis casino mega resort will bring visitor up to Cairns. The property will appeal to a wide range of tourists as it will not only host a casino; there will be plenty of other activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy.
The new casino resort will also benefit the local public in other ways. In addition to bringing tourists into Cairns, the casino will also partner with local businesses. Tony Fung wants to keep in contact with companies in Queensland to outsource various products that will be put to use on the property.
A statement from the developer says: “We want to make a positive statement about our commitment to engaging local business wherever possible when we are sourcing services for the project. We encourage all local businesses to register their details with us”.
