Across Australia, local city councils are becoming concerned about the number of poker machines that exist in their jurisdictions. As such, they would like to keep these numbers to a minimum, but some operators continue to push for more machines. Such is the dilemma that Bendigo Stadium faces, wishing to install new poker machines while the Victoria city council tries to fight it.

The owners of Bendigo Stadium in Victoria have received a license to install 30 new poker machines at the venue. While this would normally be enough for the operators to proceed, the local city council wants to block them from doing so. As such, it has proposed that the stadium obtain a planning permit. Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has never seen a dispute like this before; so, it will be holding a hearing on October 15, 2012.

Until then, the owners of Bendigo Stadium remain hopeful. They estimate that the new poker machines will bring in $7 million in additional revenue, which they plan to use in order to improve the stadium’s facilities.
