Crown Casinos are luxury venues that provide patrons with the finer things in life. Food, accommodation and entertainment are always top notch – and James Packer is enhancing the experience for patrons of Crown Melbourne as Heston Blumenthal will soon be opening a casino on the property. Heston Blumenthal is a household name for foodies.
He is a celebrity chef from the United Kingdom, who is renowned for his scientific and innovative approach to cooking. He has hosted several television cooking programmes and his profile is on par with his contemporaries like Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver. He is best known for his ‘multi-sensory’ cooking methods. Through innovative techniques and preparation, Blumenthal links taste and other senses.
There is no word yet on whether or not his new Australian restaurant will feature this type of cooking, but we can only hope. Blumental’s new restaurant will likely be one of the pricier options at Crown Melbourne. At The Fat Duck, his famous British restaurant, his set menu costs £195 ($350 AUD) per person. So, mostly high-rollers will frequent the new dining spot.
When it comes to British celebrity chefs, they have not fared well in Australia thus far. Gordon Ramsey’s Maze Grill was not around at Crown Melbourne for long before it was liquidated. The restaurant earned $14 million in in 2010, but the new owners of the hotel stated that it was an unsustainable business model. In 2010, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant was damaged in a fire and forced to shut down.
We are very excited for the opening of Heston Blumenthal’s new restaurant. It will be his first venture outside of the UK, and the new spot will certainly have people foodies lining up to get into Crown Melbourne for the first taste of Blumenthal’s multi-sensory cooking in Australia.
