In Japan, local politicians are considering the possibility of legalizing casino gambling across the country. The issue is quite controversial with a great deal of opposition. To help make the case to support the legalization of casino gambling in Japan, Dynam Holdings is involved in negotiations. One of the major rules of casino legislation in Japan is that international operators must partner up with a local gaming provider.
As one of the country’s biggest Pachinko Club operators, Dynam Holdings is in talks with several international gaming firms. This will help to ensure that all internationally-based companies will enter Japan’s casino gambling market legally when the time comes to apply for licenses. Politicians are looking to legalise casino gambling in Japan before the Olympics take place in 2020.
It would be built in time to attract tourists who are also in the city for the Olympic games. The casino complex would cost $5 billion to build and it has the potential to bring in $40 billion a year. Australian casino mogul James Packer is very interested in opening a Melco Crown location in Japan. For months, Mr Packer has expressed his interest in the market, and he will accompany Tony Abbott on his upcoming business trip to Japan.
"Japan is the biggest single opportunity that we are looking at in terms of an international expansion and growth story, just because of the sophistication of the market, the appeal of the overall area,'' say Todd Nisbet, who is in charge of Melco Crown’s casino bid for Japan. Should Japan legalise casino gambling, there is potential for the gaming market to become the third biggest in the world.
It would compete with Macau as a modern Asian gambling venue to attract international high rollers.
