Mark Johnson is suing a Las Vegas Casino for $550 000. According to his legal team, he was blackout drunk when he made the bet and casino staff should not have let him place the wager. Last month, Mr Johnson was visiting the Downtown Grand Casino in Las Vegas, a gambling venue which is commonly frequents.
He has been a patron of the casino for over ten years and had never previously had an issue while gambling hat the venue. This time, however, he was visibly intoxicated while the casino staff continued to serve him drinks and lend him money. He claims that he was blackout drunk and has no recollection of the fact that he had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars at the casino.
He and his girlfriend had been drinking from the time he left the airport and through dinner with his friends. By the time he visited the casino, he had blacked out. In Nevada, gaming laws prohibit drunken patrons from placing wagers on any casino games. They are also to be cut off from drinking if they are visibly drunk. However, in Mr Johnson’s case, neither of these laws seems to have been enforced.
"I feel like they picked my pockets," he has said in an interview. "I feel like they took a drunk guy – like a drunk guy walking down the street – and you reach in his pockets and grab all his money." Mr Johnson has enlisted in the help of a legal team to help him prove to the courts that he was actually blackout drunk.
The team has stated that they will use security camera footage and eyewitnesses to confirm that their client was indeed too drunk to gamble $550 000. We have never heard of this type of casino lawsuit before, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. We will keep you updated with further developments.
