In 2012, Pete Hoang was arrested in the washroom at Crown Casino for his alleged association with criminals. Now, he is the subject of a hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates Court, and the testimony has provided an in-depth look at the way in which high rollers at treated at the high-profile casino. Mr Hoang was arrested after authorities discovered that he had ‘dirty money’.
They had reason to believe that he had plans to gamble with $1 million of the cash, so they apprehended him before he had a chance to launder it. Jennifer Nguyen, a VIP host at Crown Casino, spoke at the hearing. She was assigned by casino managers to be on call 24 hours a day to host upwards of 60 high roller patrons at a time.
Mr Hoang was one of the biggest spenders she had ever encountered as he spent millions of dollars at a time while gambling at the casino. The player received a generous commission for the money he spent at the casino. For every million dollars he spent at the casino, he received a bonus worth more than $6000. In addition, the casino operator provided Hoang and his guests with free alcohol, food and accommodation in luxury villas.
It is also interesting to note that he lost $8 million at the casino without having any recorded income. Ms Nguyen’s testimony provided an interesting look into the lives of high rollers in Australian casinos. Players who wager millions of dollars at the casino are provided with 24-hour service and plenty of complimentary services and items.
"Our duties are to make sure the services are delivered to our VIP day in, day out, looking after their inquiries, what they need when they come to Crown and all patrons who come from interstate," Ms Nguyen said.
