A new study by Playnomics finds that mobile gamers are much more generous when it comes to spending money on games – and, they are quicker to whip out their credit cards. These findings will certainly benefit gaming operators, as more and more companies make the transition to mobile gambling from online casinos. The study gathered data from over 300 million social gaming and online gaming profiles.
To compare monetization, the researchers sampled 25 000 monetizers (players who spend money within the first 180 days of playing a game) and 25 000 non-monetizers. The data provides great insight into social gaming spending, as Playnomics titles are available to players on Android and iOS devices.
According to Playnomics, mobile players spent more money on social gaming apps than their the online counterparts on the first day of playing particular titles. On the first day of playing a game, mobile gamers spend 63.4% of the total amount of money that they will end up spending on the game over time. Non-mobile players spend just 10.4%. This is likely due to the fact that many mobile games offer quick payment options.
In many cases, players can pay for social games purchases by putting the charges on their mobile phone bills. This is a much faster process than is available for web games, as players are redirected to a payment processing system for their credit card or an e-wallet. For non-mobile players, Playnomics identified an interesting trend. Players who return to a game three times within the first week are likely to spend money on the game.
If they do not play the game frequently during that time frame, the chances that they will spend any money on it decrease. This is encouraging news for online casino operators. More and more casino developers are making the transition to mobile gaming, and it should be good to know that players are more likely to spend money if they are playing on their smartphones or tablet computers.
