Junkets offer travel and accommodation services to international gamblers, providing them with a luxury experience at Australian casinos. This week, Crown Resorts teamed up with a new junket provider in order to bring more VIP players to Crown Perth and Crown Melbourne.
The Australian reports that Iao Kun Group Holding Co has signed a memorandum of understanding with Crown Resorts, which reinforces its intentions to expand to Crown Resorts in Australia. The company will bring high-roller players from China to Crown’s luxury casinos, providing them with a wide range of perks, including free travel and accommodation.
“We are excited to take this first step toward expanding our operations and presence internationally and beginning to diversify our sources of revenue,” says Lam Man Pou, chairman of Iao Kun. “We remain committed to finding additional opportunities to expand our presence overseas.” Lately, junket operators from China are looking for new ways to expand outside of the country.
This is due to the government recent crackdown on corruption at Macau casinos, which has resulted in the gambling scene starting to dry up. During the first quarter of 2015, Macau has seen a 36.5% drop in gaming revenue, due to the crackdown – so, junket operators want to explore new opportunities. Crown Resorts presents a great opportunity for junket operators to expand overseas.
Over the course of the past few years, Crown has been working on ways to attract Asian gamblers. So, Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth can certainly cater to visitors that will be arriving via junkets. This is also great news for Crown Sydney, which will open in 2019. The high-roller venue certainly appeals to VIP players from Asia, and it will be a fantastic destination for junket travellers.
