2015 started six months ago, and the year has yet to see its first New York Lottery winner. Over 50 lottery draws have taken place since the start of the year and not one player has cashed in on the top-tier prize. The last time the New York Lotto paid out its top prize was on November 19, 2014.
Thomas Rea of Hicksville cashed in on a $12.4 million jackpot. As a stay-at-home dad, Thomas was assisted in high lottery win by his only daughter who helped him pick his winning numbers. Lottery jackpots are always at their highest after several rollovers, so it is no surprise that the current New York Lotto prize is now one of the biggest ever. At the moment, the New York Lotto jackpot is worth over $26 million.
This is the second-largest jackpot to ever be offered by the New York Lottery in the past 10 years. Still, there is a long way to go before the New York Lotto breaks its own record. The largest-ever jackpot was paid out in 2007 to a player named Degli Martinez, who won a $65 million prize.
He became famous for not only winning the state’s largest jackpot; he also made headlines because he nearly missed out on his win by throwing away his ticket. According to the New York Lottery’s website, jackpots rollover at a rate of $300 000. So, by this calculation, it would take another couple of years before the New York Lotto breaks its own record once more.
The next New York Lotto draw is tomorrow on July 1. So, be sure to buy your tickets to cash in on one of the most generous lottery jackpots that the state has ever seen.
