Germany poker machine developer Novomatic has recently purchased Betware, a gaming and lottery specialist from Iceland. This will be Novomatic’s first foray into the world of lottery gaming, allowing the firm to branch out into other lucrative markets. The new deal between Novomatic and Betware will become effective immediately. Novomatic will acquire a majority share worth 90% while Betware maintains 10% ownership.
"Our acquisition of Betware has been a logical step to further enhancing our competency in electronic and video lottery technologies,” says Thomas Graf, Chief Technology Officer at Novomatic. “Betware's open platform architecture is second to none, providing tailor-made solutions to any small or large scale lottery operation”.
Designing and developing games for the casino gambling world is a rewarding business plan, but it is important for gaming operators to branch out into other areas. Nowadays, it is common for gaming firms to specialize in various domains in order to take advantage of the rapid growth of the gambling market. A local example would be TabCorp, a well-known gaming operator in Australia.
TabCorp is most commonly known as a bookmaker which allows players to place wagers on dozens of different sporting and racing. However, the company also operates thousands of pokies across the country and caters to 1.2 poker machine players. TabCorp serves as a great example because it has experienced success in the electronic gaming market and other gaming sectors. Novomatic seems to want to achieve the same success.
The company specializes in poker machine developer, and has recently expanded into the online gambling world. Now, by partnering with Betware, Novomatic can work with lottery providers around the world. Betware’s customer base include, Denmarks’ Danske Spil AS, Spain’s Loterias y Apuestas Estado and the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.
