It was recently revealed that Macau is in dire need of new poker machines in order to meet the demand for games. Now, local researchers have come up with a solution to help attract pokie developers to the gambling capital. Zeng Zhonglu, a professor as the Macau Polytechnic Institute recently spoke with Business Daily about his suggestions for expanding the poker machine market in Macau.
He stated that it would be best to offer lower taxes and bonus incentives for gaming developers, allowing them to gather in the city and form a local industry of poker machine designers. “The industry is developing very fast in Southeast Asian countries, so the demand for slot machines is increasing fast,” he says.
“If Macau can produce technology and help manufacture slot machines, then Macau’s industry will be more diversified and have something different to offer, not only in terms of products but also job opportunities”. In Macau, there are few firms that are experienced in creating high-quality poker machines for casinos and other gambling venues.
As such, Professor Zhonglu would like to see more international companies like IGT, Aristocrat and Ainsworth opening up shop in Macau to develop specialized products for Asian players. A major concern about bringing poker machine developers into the city is that it may create financial dependence on gambling.
Professor Zhonglu dispels this concern by arguing that other types of hardware could make use of the technology that is developed by the gaming first that are being enticed to Macau. He notes that the products developed by these companies will have a diverse range of uses.
The software would not only be applicable for casino games and poker machines; it could also be used for bank machines and other useful items that are used in everyday life.
