A new study has found that online casino players have a low tolerance for lengthy identification checks. Although these confirmation measures are aimed at protecting players from fraud, most players would prefer to forego them in order to get gambling straight away.
The study, which was carried out by research firm Experian, found that online casino players are likely to abandon identity verification processes if they take longer than four minutes. Most players simply move on to another website, and choose not to spend their money gambling online.
“It comes as no surprise that online consumers are not prepared to wait for verification processes to complete – though it does come as quite a shock that four minutes is the threshold of their patience," says Rob Meakin of Callcredit Information Group. We are currently in an age of technology where access to information is instantaneous. Internet users do not want to wait longer than a few seconds for a webpage to load.
So, it is not unreasonable to expect that they would not want to wait several minutes before they can access the online game of their choice. In other sectors, online users displayed more patience. Individuals waiting for identity checks on mortgage or insurance websites waited longer. Experian notes that they could wait upwards of eight minutes, whereas online casino players could not even wait half as long.
Identity verification is important in the online casino world. Not only does it prevent underage players from access online gambling websites; it also prevents fraud from occurring. Unfortunately, players are not thrilled about having to delay their gaming for longer than four minutes while identity verification takes place.
This could result in casino sites losing out on millions of dollars, so it would be wise to explore more timely options when it comes to age and identification verification measures.
