The recent launch of the Apple Watch as put wearable technology on the map, and online gaming companies are eager to get involved from the ground up. The latest gaming developers to announce the release of a betting app for the Apple Watch are PlayTech and Unibet. This week, the two companies announced that they will be launching betting applications that can be used on Apple Watches.
This news comes just days after Ladbrokes announced its own plans to launch a gambling app for Apple Watch users in Australia. PlayTech’s app will be run in conjunction with Gala Coral, as it will be an extension of the Coral Connect Gaming Solution. It will allow players to browse live and upcoming sporting events before placing wagers on games.
Alerts will also keep players informed about promotions and bonuses, sending them directly through to the user’s Apple Watch. The application will also include a cash out facility, providing users with an all-in-one sportsbetting solution. In the future, Playtech aims to work with other licensees to launch additional Apple Watch functionality. UniBet’s application is somewhat different.
It will offer players the ability to browse football and horseracing information, but they will not be able to wager. Instead, they will be given the option to wager using their mobile phone or tablet computer. It is only the first iteration of the application, so the next generation will likely include betting capabilities.
“We anticipate Apple Watch users initially using their watch as an information and communication tool, weeding out the wheat from the chaff of all the communication that reaches our smartphones these days,” says Ed Nicholson, head of Unibet’s UK marketing operations. “So, we wanted to be sure we are providing their watch with the best information possible in order to make it through that cut off.”
