Today’s online gambling market is very diverse, as players want to get involved with all types of gambling activities. To keep up with player tastes, operators are diversifying as well – and, we are seeing PokerStars taking this particular approach with the launch of its brand new online sportsbook. Soon, punters will be able to wager on sports events using PokerStars’ new betting service.
According to reports, the new sportsbook will be available during the first quarter of 2015. This news comes just months after PokerStars launched casino games in various markets, such as Spain and the United Kingdom. The company seems very keen to attract interest from a wide range of online gamblers, and providing plenty of different gambling activities will certainly help to achieve this goal.
“Those launches have been successful in reactivating dormant customers and extending the value of our existing poker customers,” Eric Hollreiser, Head of Corporate Communications at Rational Group, has been quoted as saying in a report by FlushDraw. “We are confident these games will create more value to our PokerStars site and bolster the core poker offering.”
While casino and sportsbetting fans are pleased with the new additions, poker pros are not particularly pleased. Some players have expressed concerns about the operator now providing games of luck, which has the potential to compromise its integrity as an online poker room.
It is likely that the service will initially only be available in the United Kingdom and in various markets across Europe, it is not farfetched to believe that could possibly come to Australia. We have seen plenty of European and British bookmakers open up gambling operations for local players, and PokerStars may be a future addition.
