When gambling, it is common that players will get frustrated. After all, losing a hand or a round means losing money. In the casino world, this frustration is called ‘tilt’ – and one local player let it get to him in the worst way possible. Earlier this week, Paul Bates was playing pokies at the Northern Suburbs Leagues Club. After a losing session, he became so frustrated that he punch the machine before leaving the venue.

The incident was caught on the security camera and police were called to the scene. It wasn’t until the next day, however, that the authorities were able to contact him. He admitted to the police that he had damaged the machine, however attempted to get off easy. Bates’ lawyer claimed that he had suffered an injury that resulted in him working reduced hours at work, and requested that his client take his time paying back the damages.

Bates has been required to pay a $1200 for his crime and $1800 for the damages to the poker machine. With $3000 coming out of his pocket when he’d likely only lost a few dollars in the first place is reason enough to resist the ‘tilt’.
