Helix personas are a new form of classification of residents across Australian consumers. Developed by Roy Morgan Research, Helix Personas cover a comprehensive cross-section of Australians, which helps business and industry experts analyse their spending habits and other behaviour effectively. Recently, Roy Morgan researchers analysed the spending of Helix personas on poker machines.
There are seven types of Helix Personas:
– 100 Leading Lifestyles are high-income families who are most likely to live in the suburbs
– 200 Metrotechs are young, cultured professionals who live in the city and are well-off
– 300 Today’s Families are young families who live in the suburbs
– 400 Aussie Achievers are families who live in the suburbs and work to pay off a separate home
– 500 Getting By are young couples or families who are bargain hunters
– 600 Gold Years are retired individuals who are focused on financial security
– 700 Battlers are families, individuals and couples who are struggling financially
According to Roy Morgan’s research on pokie spending, the group which spends the most amount of money on pokies per quarter is 500 Getting By. These individuals spend $1082 per quarter, well above the national average of $833. 700 Battlers are the most likely to play pokies – but they spend $757, significantly less on the games than the average player.
400 Aussie Achievers and 300 Today’s Families also spend less than the average poker machine punter. “Getting By mostly comprise larger, often immigrant and multigenerational households in outer metro suburbs,” says Jane Ianniello of Roy Morgan Research.
“Three Personas in this community stand out for their above-average prevalence of poker machine gambling and average quarterly expenditure of $1300-1500 per player: Budget Lifestyle (504), Aspiring Immigrants (505) and Doing it Tough (509)” . The research and the Helix Personas provide unique insight into the spending habits of Australians.
