Echo Entertainment executives have announced that The Star casino will be getting a $100 million makeover. The goal of the renovations will be to increase the hotel’s capacity and draw in more visitors from around the world. The Australian reports that Astral Tower Hotel and Astral Residences will be given a complete overhaul.
Dozens of new suites will be added to the Astral Tower Hotel, bringing the total number of rooms up to about 350. The rooms will be given new looks with Echo Entertainment fitting them out with a number of different styles, such as 1970s glam. As many of the world’s most high-profile casinos feature themes, this makeover will bring The Star closer in line with international luxury brands.
There will also be several other renovations made to The Star Casino, including a refurbishment of the hotel lobby. The operator will also add a nightclub and lounge, conference facilities and a business centre. This is the second refurbishment project that Echo Entertainment has recently announced. Currently, the casino operator is working on a $345 million renovation of Jupiters Gold Coast.
This will include a makeover of the hotel in order to create an integrated resort to attract new visitors. The Star Casino currently has exclusivity in the city, as it is the only casino with a license to operate in Sydney. In 2019, Crown Resorts will end The Star’s exclusivity agreement by opening up the high-roller casino, Crown Sydney.
As such, it is important that The Star continues to be an attractive option for visitors, which is why we are likely to see the casino operator investing more money into renovations. Echo Entertainment aims to have this project completed by 2017 – well before Crown Sydney opens up. The refurbishment will be carried out in stages, so that The Star will keep its casino hotels and restaurants open throughout the process.
