Recently, TabCorp has earned top honours from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. For the 10th time in 11 years, the Australian bettor operator has been recognised as a leader in responsible gambling. There are more than 1000 companies ranked on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. They are graded based on various economic, social and environmental factors.
There are 17 different areas in which companies are ranked, and TabCorp earned a 100% score in the category of ‘promoting responsible gaming’. “Tabcorp has, over a long period, demonstrated its commitment to responsible gambling and sustainable business practices,” says Tabcorp chief executive David Attenborough. In the gambling industry, it is important for operators to look after the wellbeing of customers.
This means offering them responsible gambling advice and services that keep them from exceeding their spending limits. It also means that they have corporate responsibility, supporting the local community through their profits and various social initiatives. TabCorp contributes to the Australian gaming industry in a big way, offering up millions of dollars in taxes to valuable organisations across the country.
TabCorp was recognised for its impressive profits and contribution to the local community. In the last year, the company generated $459.6 million in taxes and contributed over $770 million to Australia’s racing industry. This is stark contrast to the offshore gaming operators in Australia, who generate millions of dollars in profits but do not pay taxes in the country or provide funding for local racing and community initiatives.
Attenborough continues: “We believe regulations need to be tightened in respect to unlicensed offshore operators. Wagering operators should be licensed in Australia in order to be able to take bets from Australian residents, both to protect consumers and to ensure local racing industries remain viable”.
