It has been nearly a year since William Hill bought out the controversial betting agency owned by Tom Waterhouse. Now, it has been announced that Mr. Waterhouse will now be the head of the William Hill’s Australian operations. The news has come as quite a surprise to gambling professionals across Australia.
If the company were going to appoint Mr. Waterhouse to CEO, the gaming industry questions why the appointment wasn’t made sooner. However, William Hill stated that is was delayed while the company searched for a new Group CEO. Now that James Henderson will assume that role, Mr Waterhouse will take the lead as the head of the company.
Even if you’re not into sportsbetting, it is likely that you are still award of the name Tom Waterhouse. Over the years, he has been quite controversial due to his marketing tactics. Recently, residents across the country campaigned against his appearances during sports broadcasts because he was exposing young spectators to gambling. Eventually, he was booted from the commentators’ table on Channel 9 broadcasts.
Still, it cannot be denied that Mr Waterhouse has brilliant business acumen in the sportsbetting market. After all, his company was sold for $40 million in 2013. By 2015, the deal has the potential to be worth $110 million. As such, he is certainly suited for the role of CEO of William Hill Australia. He has an established presence in the country and knows that local customers want.
